All information on the tournament format will be sent by email once you’ve registered.

Entry fee

Entry is just £3, but if you’re feeling generous, you’re welcome to pay a bit more if you’d like to, all profits go to the Anniversaries Campaign to support students through scholarships and hardship funds.

You can pay on the day, and cards/cash are fine.

Game version and controllers

The version of Mario Kart we will be using is Mario Kart Wii.

The controllers will be provided and are gyroscopic so you can steer by turning them.

Tournament format

You’ll play solo against up to three other tournament competitors in an elimination style tournament.

Prior to each cup, there will be a single race ‘test run’ so you can familiarise yourself with the controls. The result of this race is not a part of your progress in the tournament, and is optional for all players.

Rounds will see competitors complete a ‘cup’, comprising of four races, the winner will proceed until there is only one winner.

The Cup will be randomly selected by the console.

The ‘cups’ will also feature NPC/AI characters as is normal in a game of Mario Kart.

Once all players have had a chance at competing, we will be left with the Mario Kart Campus Champ 2025, who will be presented with the inaugural trophy and lavished in praise.

Additional information

Should there be a draw between two, three, or even four people in a single cup round (Which is fully possible), a single race will be held to determine who goes through to the next round.

Shenanigans clause: Should any accusations of malpractice, poor racing form, disgraceful on track conduct or similar arise, the end say of the lead judge will be final!

Questions

Can I play remotely?

No, sadly we can’t offer remote play, if you can’t make this one then keep an eye out for future events!

I've never played Mario Kart before, is it easy to pick up?

Mario Kart is known for being really accessible and fun for players of all abilities, so you’ll likely find it easy to pick up.

I’ve played Mario Kart lots but never on the Wii: is it similar to the version on the Switch/N64/DS/SNES etc?

It is similar with differences in characters, tracks, graphic levels, but overall, it’ll be easy enough to pick up!
